Gaydon Lighthorne Heath recommended as new town by SDC

STRATFORD District Council’s ruling Cabinet have today (Monday) voted in favour of Gaydon Lighthorne Heath (GLH) as the preferred strategic development site in the district.

Proposals to build homes on Long Marston Airfield, on land joining Long Itchington with Southam and at a site in south east Stratford were rejected by members, who voted unanimously in favour of the GLH scheme, which could see up to 3,000 homes built as part of a “new town” in the area.

A six-week public consultation had already been carried out in a bid to identify a single strategic site from five proposals to help meet the brunt of the 10,800 homes planned in the next 17 years.

In addition to the consultation findings, the Cabinet discussed a number of other reports at this afternoon’s meeting.

And following much debate, GLH was judged to be the most viable, sustainable and deliverable proposal for the council’s emerging Core Strategy – the document that will help shape development in the district until 2031.

The Cabinet’s recommendation will now be put forward to Full Council on May 12 where a final decision will be made.
