THE FLAG was hoisted above Leamington Town Hall to mark Merchant Navy Day.
Dignitaries including Warwick District Council Chairman, Councillor Michael Doody, gathered to raise the red ensign on Thursday (September 3).
Since the year 2000, Merchant Navy Day has honoured the men and women who kept the nation afloat during both World Wars.
In recent years it has also helped commemorate the country’s dependence on modern day merchant seafarers who are responsible for 95 per cent of the UK’s imports.
More than 200 local authorities flew the flag outside public buildings as part of the celebration.
