Fallen soldier remembered at Hatton grotto opening

SANTA got a helping hand at a poignant opening of Hatton Adventure World’s Christmas grotto.

Five year-old Rosie Lamb officially opened Father Christmas’ grotto in memory of her father Martin – a rifleman killed while serving in Afghanistan in 2011.

Throughout the festive period, Hatton Adventure World is teaming up with Forces Support, a national charity which aims to help support the families of service personnel who have lost their lives while serving.

The attraction is offering free tickets to families being supported by the charity, giving the children the chance to meet Santa and choose a gift to take home with them.

Melissa Lamb, Rosie’s mother, has worked closely with the charity for the past three years.

She said: “After the death of my husband, the only place I felt safe was my house. The magnolia walls reminded me of the army quarters we had lived in together so I hired a painter and decorator to brighten the place up. Unfortunately he caused a lot of problems so I contacted Forces Support for help.

“They listened to what I wanted, helped to decorate my home and even created a memorial area in our garden where Rosie and I can share stories about Martin. We owe such a lot to Forces Support and I’m thrilled that Rosie has been chosen to open the Grotto, which will hopefully bring some joy to children being supported by the charity.”

Visitors to the attraction will also be treated to a brand new experience with live reindeer, a living nativity display, a wise men falconry show and festive Christmas shows from resident children’s entertainer, Zoobie.
