Eco-friendly pupils commit to a greener lifestyle

Leamington Editorial 13th Dec, 2018   0

ECO-minded pupils in Leamington have pledged to reduce their carbon footprint.

Campion School has taken on the ‘Midcounties Co-operative’s Green Pledge Challenge’ which aims to encourage communities to commit to a greener lifestyle.

The challenge involves ditching plastic bags, switching off lights when leaving a room and recycling all household plastic which could save up to one tonne of plastic.

The pupils were told the average UK household throws away around 40kg of recyclable plastic each year.

They have also promised to walk or cycle to school – the equivalent of taking four cars off the road for a year – in a bid to save some 25 tonnes of CO2.

School spokeswoman Julie Gardner said: “Looking after the planet is a huge responsibility for us all and it’s been fascinating to discover the impact we can have here in Leamington.

“We’re proud that so many of our students have embraced the pledges and taken their first steps towards what we hope will be a lifelong effort to care for our planet.”
