Distillery company owned by soap star could open business in Leamington

Leamington Editorial 26th May, 2018   0

A DISTILLERY company owned by a soap star could open an alcohol storage unit in Leamington – despite safety concerns raised by residents.

Neat Distillery Limited – which is owned by Adam Woodyatt, who plays Ian Beale in Eastenders – has applied to Warwick District Council for a premises licence.

The business owner wants to store alcohol for distribution to internet buyers in a unit on Regent Street.

But neighbours fear increased traffic and delivery vans to the unit in Regent Studios – which is on the corner of residential street Somers Place – could pose a risk to other drivers and cause a disturbance and parking issues.

One of those who opposes the plan said: “The residents of Somers Place should be allowed to live in relative peace in its backwater, situated in the middle of the conservation area without the additional inconvenience of delivery vans and their associated noise, blocking the already challenged road thus preventing private and emergency vehicles from entering and exiting.

“Surely this activity would be better placed in a small unit on one of the many industrial estates outside of the town.”

If given the green light, deliveries and collections would operate between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday and deliveries would be no more than twice weekly.

The matter is set to be discussed further today (Thursday May 22).
