Leamington Editorial 15th Sep, 2017   0

BUS operator Midland Red (South) Limited has pleaded guilty to charges relating to the Coventry Sainsbury’s double-decker crash which left two dead and more injured.

The company admitted charges relating to health and safety legislation – concerning a failure to prevent driver fatigue and working hours.

The firm’s representatives at Coventry magistrates yesterday also expressed condolences over the incident in October 2015 at the supermarket in Trinity Street, Coventry city centre.

Two people died in the incident in October 2015.

They were passenger Rowan Fitzgerald, seven, of Leamington, and pedestrian Dora Hancox, 76.

Driver Kailash Chander, 79 – who is also a former Leamington town mayor – has been charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The case against the company will now go to court on October 6 for sentencing.

Mr Chander, who has not yet entered a plea, will also appear before Warwick Crown Court in Leamington Spa on the same day, at 10am.
