THE WARWICK and Leamington Covid-19 Help Group has signed up more than 1,000 community volunteers.
In the past week some 200 people in the area have been helped with shopping, collecting medication or got a friendly phone call to help ease social isolation.
The group’s Facebook page has over 6,800 members with hundreds more people joining every day.
Thousands of postcards with the group’s contact details have also now been distributed to homes across the area and to local pharmacies, to make sure everybody in the area knows how to get help if they need it.
Coun Helen Adkins, who represents Leamington Willes on Warwickshire County Council, is one of the organisers.
She said: “It’s wonderful to see neighbours signing up to help their fellow citizens. Whilst there is support from our local councils for the most vulnerable, mutual aid means neighbours can come together to help anyone with shopping or pick up a prescription.
“Being able to get help easily, takes so much stress off people who are having to self-isolate and keeps our community safe.”
