LIFE-changing charities have been given a cash boost thanks to support from a former mayor.
Coun Caroline Evetts – who recently handed over the mayoral chains to Coun Heather Calver – spent her year in office raising money for The Samaritans, Alzheimer’s Society and the NSPCC.
Her work helped to raise more than £10,000 which she distributed between the charities during an awards ceremony at the Town Hall.
She said: “It was a real pleasure to promote these good causes which benefit a wide cross section of the community.
“It was fascinating to learn even more about the work of each charity and how they help and support people across our town and the surrounding area.
“I am delighted so much money has been raised for them and would like to thank everyone who made a donation.”
