ARMED robbers tied up shop staff and threatened them with crowbars before stealing money.

The Sainsburys store on Rugby Road in Cubbington was targeted at around 6am today (Thursday December 21).

The robbers tied up three members of staff and removed self-service machine cash boxes before fleeing the scene in a vehicle believed to be a white Audi.

Police are calling for anyone with information to come forward.

Det Sgt Collette Okeefe said: “Nobody was injured in the robbery but this will have been understandably very upsetting for the staff and customers that were present and we will be offering them support.

“We are appealing for any information from the public, no matter how insignificant as even the smallest detail can be key.

“Therefore we would ask anyone who was in the area that saw the incident and has yet to come forward, to get in touch or if you heard or saw anything suspicious in the area around the time of the incident.”

It is the second armed robbery in the area in a matter of days after Tesco on Cubbington Road was targeted.

Four balaclava-clad men carrying blades, tried to break into a safe in Tesco Express on Cubbington Road at around 11.30pm on Tuesday December 12.

The thugs – who threatened and pushed staff – stole cash from the tills after they failed to break open the safe.

They fled the store and drove away in a dark coloured 4X4 vehicle.

Anyone with information about either robbery can call 101 to speak to police.
