Five ways to improve your home security

Keeping your home and possessions safe should always be a key priority for any home owner; burglars will be able to spot a weak house when they see one; fires can spread easily if the right equipment is not installed and money can be lost if the property is not insured correctly.
With a one fifth of British homes experiencing at least one burglary event a year it is important that you keep your home protected through these five ways of improving your homes security.

  • INSTALL BURGLAR ALARMS

A single ADT alarm system can offer a home owner peace of mind 24 hours a day. The alarms are monitored at ADT’s Alarm Monitoring centres and they are able to provide immediate support as and when you need it. Ensure that you always lock your property and double check all windows are closed, if someone enters your house and fails to turn off the alarm then a signal is sent to one of the centres and relevant services will be notified.

  • SMOKE ALARMS ARE A MUST

Fire is one of the most damaging elements to any property when left undetected; not only this but failure in installing smoke alarms could put lives at risk. There should be at least one (if not more) smoke alarms on each floor of your house. Make sure to check them regularly and replace straight away if ever damaged or broken.

  • INSTALL CCTV

With the ability to capture every face that walks into your house, CCTV systems are a great form of defence when safeguarding your home. Set your system in full view to act as a warning to potential thieves. You can now relax safe, knowing that if someone did try to enter your home, they will be caught on tape.  Install two cameras if possible - one at the front your property and one and the back so all entrances to your house are covered. An interesting fact is that if your property has an alarm system then around 84% of burglars will avoid your property.

  • INVEST IN ALARMS

It is not only smoke and burglar alarms that are a must in your property but a carbon monoxide detector also provides all-round home security. Every year approximately 15 people die from carbon monoxide poisoning, so investing in one of these sensors potentially saves your family from this risk. ADT Home Security systems also provide systems that help monitor temperature and flood detection which help you avoid potential damage that could be cause by flooding in your home.

  • INSURE YOUR PROPERTY AND BELONGINGS

  • Home security is not always about cameras and alarms, simply insuring your home will offer financial protection to damages caused to your house or damage to your possessions. Without insurance you could create yourself more heartache that what is necessary.  About 5 million homes still do not have the relevant cover that is needed, putting them at risk.  It is also worth hiding some of your more valuable possessions when you are not in the house so it makes it harder for the thief to find.
