Visiting London: what to see and do

London is listed as one of the top ten cities to visit in Europe, and for good reason too. There are so many things to discover in the capital city – it is home to a range of attractions designed to cater for all, making the city not only one of the most popular cities to visit, but a city that continues to be popular with tourists year after year.

Many of London’s main attractions have benefited from recent investments. The Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum has recently relaunched its fashion department – it’s now much bigger and houses more beautiful ballgowns and other fashion items, which means there is plenty more for the public to see. They have also just been granted permission to develop a £41million underground gallery.

Museums in London are always a popular destination with tourists; they're ideal for when the weather isn't great, which can be quite often in London! They cover all interests and cater for all ages. Lots of the museums have interactive areas that encourage children to get involved, and others are home to some of the coolest cafes around, including the National Portrait Gallery cafe where you can enjoy a snack whilst overlooking Trafalgar Square.

Museums are just one of the many popular tourist attractions in the city. If historical artefacts and relics aren’t really your thing, then there are plenty of other things to do in London. If you want to discover a different side to London, why not visit one of London’s many gardens. This is a great way of experiencing a more tranquil part of the city. The Royal Parks are worth a visit and are great for picnics if the weather is on your side. In the summer months a lot of the parks play host to music concerts, so why not check online before you set off to see if there is anything happening to make your London trip even more special.

Trips along the river are a great way of seeing the whole of London. If you prefer to explore the historical sites rather than view ancient relics behind glass in a museum, then you should take a visit to the Tower of London. There you can learn about how the Royals used it as both a place for refuge and as a base to discuss Royal duties – along with learning about all the grizzly executions and torture that went on within the grounds. You can buy Tower of London tickets online prior to your visit or when you get there.
