We’ve all seen the guy walking around the supermarket with shabby off white running shoes, the sole worn down and laces pulled so tight you wonder if any blood is actually getting to his toes. Although probably very practical, it’s safe to say that he won’t be winning any style awards. And that’s the problem, no matter how stylish you are, no matter how much thought went into your look, if your trainers are unstylish then by default, you are too.
With so many styles of trainers available on the market today it’s important you have the right pair to suit your look. And with current selection of cheap mens trainers available on the market there is no excuse to look anything less than stylish. With this in mind, I’ve broken down the four key styles of fashion trainer that every man should own giving him a pair to suit any mood.
Chuck Taylors – The classic Converse All Stars are probably the most famous trainers on the planet. Anyone and everyone should have at least one pair of these vintage classics in their locker to throw on with jeans and t-shirt when they’re feeling a bit rock n roll.
Hi Tops – Thanks to the trend for skinny jeans and tapered leg chinos that show off your wheels, these old skool basketball shoes have forced their way to the top of the trainer hierarchy. With hi-tops anything goes, bright colours, velcro straps and oversized tongues all look great, and if you can get them all in one pair then even better.
Old Skool Classics – The trend for remakes of classic trainers will never die, from the Adidas Originals Superstars to the Nike Blazer, old skool trainers create a vibe all of their own. Nothing says cool quite like a pair of Adidas Sambas peeping out from under a pair of bootcut jeans.
Sports & Performance – Yeah, I know at the start of the article I said ‘fashion trainers’, but lest face it you need to look good when working out too, and there’s tons of crossover trainers that are built for performance and fashion alike. The Air Max range have become modern day classics in and out of the gym while Vans and DC skate shoes were built for skateboarding but have built up a huge fashion following.
