FROM poetry and music to wheelchair line dancing, much-loved local figure Bill Mckechnie has pulled out all the stops to entertain in care homes and schools across Warwickshire.

And now his efforts have been recognised with an audition for ITV's Britain's Got Talent. Though he is unable to reveal how his audition went until the show airs later this year, it is highly likely to be entertaining.

The 54-year-old, who lives in Warwick, was called in for special praise by friend Christine Rogers, who first met Bill at a line dance class.

She said: “It wasn't long before his zest for helping people shone through.

“I admire his patience and understanding with the elderly and infirm in trying to enhance their day when he attends the care homes. He just oozes talent with dance, poetry and music and is a caring sort of chap who gets a lot of pleasure from helping others.

“Characters like Bill are very important, we don't find many genuine ones around these days.”

Bill, a regular local radio guest artist, founded wheelchair line dancing in the UK, Germany and France. Some of his poetry has been praised by the Bishop of Coventry with others were used by Lancashire Police in a Christmas drink-drive campaign.

And his one-man show has been taken to care homes across Warwicskhire.

But humble Bill played down his efforts this week, insisting he simply enjoyed putting a smile on people's faces.
