BOSSES of a village pub have won their appeal over a council's “jobsworth” attempts to shut down its overflow car park.

As we reported in December, bosses of The Stag at Offchurch were left baffled by Warwick District Council's decision to serve an enforcement notice to close the car park.

The council insisted it did not have planning permission and was situated within a conservation area of green belt land.

But the pub won its appeal against that decision this week after receiving support by the local MP Jeremy Wright and Offchurch Parish Council.

Costs were also awarded to The Stag.

David Mills, who led the appeal on behalf of the venue said: “Not only was the whole affair a waste of council time and resources, but has incurred unnecessary costs to the local tax payer’s purse.

“Justice has been done and the residents of Offchurch and our team at the staff are consequently delighted.

“Fortunately we were able to get good advice regarding the planning issues, but another pub put in a similar situation may well have been intimidated by the enforcement notices, which could have led to the loss of a business and local jobs, without founding.”

Previously Charles Harris, operations director at CD Pub Co, which runs The Stag, said the council's “jobsworth” actions had caused major concern among staff as well as residents in the village.
