Storytelling workshops come to Leamington

A BOOKWORM will be sharing her passion with Leamington families over the coming months.

Mother-of-two Loll Kirby will be running a series of free storytelling sessions at the Oxfam Books and Music shop on Regent Street in February, March and April.

The former primary school teacher has been passionate about books from young age and having temporarily given up work to raise her children, has now decided to focus on spreading her love of books to the younger generation.

According to a recent survey carried out by children’s literacy charity Booktrust, two thirds of parents do not read with their babies and Loll is keen to reduce this number.

She told the Observer: “I'm doing this on a voluntary basis because I'm passionate about sharing the joy of reading and I'm keen to get as many children as possible involved.

“One of my earliest memories is hiding under the covers with a torch and poring over my favourite book, desperate to sneak in a few more minutes reading time. I was a bookworm then and I’m a bookworm now and I’m really hoping that both my young sons head in the same direction.

“Unfortunately most children nowadays - mine included - spend a lot of time looking at screens and for many parents regularly finding time to read with their children is difficult.

“One of the best ways to encourage children to enjoy reading is to have books around the house but this can be hard in these cash-strapped times so I look forward to welcoming many Leamington families along."

Loll's first session – aimed at four to six year-olds - will take place on February 10 from 10am to 11am. Further session will be held in March and April catering for newborns to four year-olds.
