Two crashes on Fosse Way within half an hour

A SHORT stretch of the Fosse Way saw two cars crash into trees within half an hour of one another.

West Midlands Ambulance Service received a 999 call just before 4pm on Friday (January 11) after a car crashed into a tree near Wellesbourne.

An Ambulance spokeswoman said: “Crews arrived to find an elderly couple and a man inside the car.

“The driver, a woman, and the front seat passenger, her husband, were physically trapped due to the wreckage and crews had to work with the fire service to carefully extricate them from the vehicle.

“The woman, in her 70s, suffered leg injuries and was immobilised with a neck collar and spinal board. Her husband, also in his 70s, suffered facial injuries and was also immobilised as a precaution. Both were taken to Warwick Hospital. The second man was uninjured.”

The second crash happened just after 4.15pm near Moreton Morrell.

The ambulance spokeswoman said: “The driver, a man, suffered a suspected fractured pelvis and leg and was trapped in the vehicle for around 30 minutes. Crews administered pain relief to the man and stabilised his condition before working with the fire service to extricate him from the vehicle.

“The man was fully immobilised before being taken by land ambulance on blue lights to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further assessment and treatment.

“A woman also suffered minor injuries.”
