OLD Leamingtonians bowed out of the Warwickshire Cup after falling to a 25-8 defeat against Midlands One West outfit Stratford at The Crofts on Saturday.
The Midlands Three West (South) leaders battled bravely but were unable to spring a surprise in what proved an entertaining clash played in dreadful conditions.
OLs more than matched their higher ranked visitors in the opening 20 minutes but eventually fell behind to a long range penalty.
OLs bounced back and a spell of pressure was rewarded when full back Mark Foley slotted over a penalty to level the scores.
Stratford regained the initiative by scoring two unconverted tries which secured a 13-3 interval lead.
The visitors strengthened their grip with a penalty try early in the second half but OLs responded in fine fashion and prop Mave Davies touched down for a deserved try following a rolling maul.
OLs continued to exert pressure but the Stratford defence held out and the visitors sealed their passage into the next round with a late unconverted try.
OLs resume their Midlands Three West (South) title challenge with a visit to Pershore this Saturday, seeking revenge for their only league defeat of the season.
