A BUDDING TV presenter from Leamington is looking to make her big break.

Monika Phala has been selected as one of nine finalists in this year’s 'Breaking Into News', an initiative run in partnership by ITV News and Media Trust to discover new talent.

The initiative offers 18 to 25 year-olds the chance to be mentored by experienced broadcast journalists from ITV News in writing, presenting and production skills. Monika has been matched with Victoria Davies a presenter at ITV Central who will work closely with her

And 21-year-old Monika and the eight other finalists are preparing to present their news reports to a judging panel and the overall winner will be given the opportunity to spend the day with the team producing ITV News at Ten.

She said: “I am amazed to have got this far.

“I want to produce a report on skin lightening in the Asian community and why some people want to use chemicals to change the colour of their skin.

"I can’t wait to see my initial idea transformed into a news report.”
