IT WAS not a quacking Christmas for Kenilworth Lions as they were forced to cancel their second event in as many weeks.

The annual Duck Race was due to take place at Finham Brook, Abbey Fields on Boxing Day but following heavy rainfall, the Lions were forced to cancel the event over safety fears.

The event sees people pay £1 to buy a plastic duck, which is then released as part of a group of 1,500 ducks in a race down the brook with the first duck past the finishing line securing £100 for its owner as well as other prizes of £75, £50 and £25.

Tim Lee from Kenilworth Lions said: “The river was just too fast-flowing and too deep for us to hold the event safely.

“Hundreds of people turned up but they were all very understanding and we hope to see them again when the event takes place next week.”

It will now go ahead on New Year's Day from 12pm at the same location.
