Woodrush 6 Old Leamingtonians 40
BUBBLING OLs moved to the top of the Midlands Three West (South) table after cantering to a resounding win on Saturday.
The impressive success was based on a solid defensive display coupled with aome expansive running rugby which proved too much for mid-table Woodrush.
Well drilled OLs yet again prevented their opponents from crossing the try line and restricted Woodrush to two penalties whilst scoring six tries themselves.
The hosts enjoyed the better of the opening ten minutes but the pressure was absorbed by the hard tackling OLs backs.
The visiting forwards began to exert pressure and fine handling saw centre Simon Hemming cross for the opening try which fly-half Angus Rose converted.
OLs continued to press and It was no surprise when, following a series of mauls, back row Liam Jones went over with Rose again converting.
Woodrush responded with two penalties but OLs regained the initiative and ever alert scrum-half Mark Foley caught the home defence napping from a quick tap penalty for a try which Rose converted.
The OLs pack, especially the front row, were having a field day allowing hooker James O’Hanlon to repeatedly win the ball against the head.
Woodrush were forced into errors and from resulting penalties fly-half Rose kicked OLs into strong attacking positions.
From two line-outs, following penalties, OLs caught the throw in and drove Woodrush back over the try line for Mave Davies and captain Jason Healey to touch down. One try was converted.
OLs completed the scoring through replacement winger Robbie Ridler who finished an excellent flowing move between forwards and backs with Rose converting.
OLs, who climbed above Old Coventrians on points difference, visit Redditch this Saturday.
