WHITNASH was the last of the local towns to turn on its Christmas Lights on Sunday, December 2.

More than 1,000 residents turned out to watch a local Paralympic Gold medallist, Nigel Murray, switch on the lights.

The event, organised by volunteers from Whitnash Town Council, took place at the new refurbished Plough & Harrow Pub and was compèred by DJ and town councillor Simon Button.

The event included a live band, Harry Rag, as the headline act, who performed an array of popular songs from the sixties and seventies and were ably supported by an eclectic mix of local talent.

There was a special visit from Father Christmas, who greeted over 230 children.

The sideshows included fairground rides and attractions, bouncy castles and the usual selection of stalls for local organisations and charities.

Following the switch-on and, individuals and businesses have been encouraged to illuminate their houses and premises, which are to be judged by the town council on Sunday (December 16) with awards presented in a ceremony at the Plough & Harrow at a date to be arranged.
