Police probed over death of Leamington woman

WARWICKSHIRE Police's handling of phone calls from a Leamington woman who was found dead the next day is being investigated.

The force received an emergency call just after 8pm on October 24 from a 44-year-old woman, which was terminated before she provided any further details. A police operator returned the call and spoke to two men and a woman, who identified their location in Briar Close, Lillington.

At 11am the following day police were called to the property where ambulance service had found the woman's body within the property.

Rachel Cerfontyne, from the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), said: "The investigation is examining the actions and decisions of control room staff, supervisors and police officers and whether force procedures and policies were followed in relation to contact with the occupants of Briar Close on the evening of October 24.

"An investigator has made contact with the woman’s family to explain our role. My thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”

Two men, aged 62 year and 49, who had been arrested following the discover of the woman’s body, were later released on police bail.

A post mortem examination carried out on October 26 showed the woman had a pre-existing medical condition. The matter has since been referred to the coroner, and results of toxicology test - to establish the full circumstances of her death – have not been revealed.
