FURTHER flooding is expected across the area as rivers overflow amid the continuing rainfall.

Environment Agency flood warnings have been in place since last week for the River Avon at Warwick, and the River Leam in Leamington.

Flooding has also been seen in parts of Southam and Kenilworth.

In Bearley, south Warwickshire, metal panels were blown off a barn roof last week, while the crown courts of Warwickshire Justice Centre, Leamington, also had to be evacuated after four huge glass panels shattered in strong winds.

And police and the fire service assisted in flood evacuation at Warwick greyhound track, off Emscote Road, helping an elderly woman and 70 dogs safety from rising waters.

On Sunday (November 25) West Midlands Ambulance Service issued an urgent plea for people to stop putting their lives, and those of the emergency services, at risk during the current flooding.

It followed a busy night for the ambulance service which has had to deal with a number of flood related incidents overnight. In particular, the service is concerned by the number of people who have failed to take suitable precautions when they have come across flood hit roads

Service general manager, Nathan Hudson said: “It is quite simple; driving through flood water is inherently dangerous.

“People who attempt to pass through flooded roads are not only putting their own lives at risk, but also the lives of the emergency services staff who have to rescue them.”
