Leamington won 2-1 on penalty flicks

LEAMINGTON edged into round three of the EHB Vase following a dramatic penalty flick victory over Buxton on Sunday.

David Waby fired the hosts ahead to which George Potts added an impressive reverse stick strike into the top corner.

Buxton reduced the arrears before the break and grabbed a second half equaliser to take the tie into extra-time.

No further goals were scored but Leamington kept their nerve in the shoot-out with Waby and Mike Drury confidently converting their flicks, while keeper Chris Parks produced aome smart saves to secure their progress.

Leamington now face a trip to Macclesfield in round three on Sunday, November 18.

The cup success proved a welcome relief as Leamington had slipped to a disappointing 3-0 West Midlands League Division One defeat against Wednesbury on Saturday.

The 2nds bounced back to winning ways with a convincing 5-1 victory overt Evesham thanks to strikes from Alex Willetts 2, Rob Matthews, Nick Solman and Matt Wright.

Leamington Ladies 3rds, inspired by impressive defender Erica Smith, cruised to a 3-0 success over Warwick University 2nds thanks to goals from Andrea Ralph, Debbie Burton and Liz Jones.

The 4ths edged a 3-2 verdict over Hampton with Dominique Selby, icky Hunt and Ellie Brain on target.

The newly-formed Badgers, for juniors aged 13 and over, recorded their first win of the season by beating Evesham 4-2 on Saturday.

Rob Love, Robin Turner, Will Savage and Lewis Low were the scorers, while Rosie Hopley and Adam Pullman impressed on their debut.
