STAN the eagle remains missing despite further attempts to track down and catch the elusive Warwick Castle favourite.

As previously reported, the ten-year-old white-tailed eagle – which has a wingspan of six and a half feet – flew off during a show at the historic castle on September 6.

Over the last month he has been spotted in trees near to Leamington Rugby Football Club, but avoided capture, and has more recently been seen toward Daventry.

Last week he was sighted at a farm near Badby, with the castle's expert falconry team trying to tempt him home with food and even set up a ladder to try to climb up and catch him, but he flew off again and hasn't been seen since.

Tim Harrison-Jones, general manager at Warwick Castle, said: “With winter kicking in, the air is becoming colder and food is becoming less available, making it even more important to try and get Stan home as soon as possible.”

Despite his imposing size, Stan is described as a “timid” eagle who flies away when approached.

Warwick Castle's birds are trained to free fly in shows, meaning they are able to leave the area, but usually soon return.
