A DELIVERY driver was dragged along the road by his own van after it was stolen during a dramatic robbery in Southam.
The FedEx-branded Ford Transit was targeted when the delivery driver stopped to make a drop off in Linley Road. When he got back in the van he was pulled out by the thief, who drove off with the delivery driver clinging to the side window - only letting go when he thought he might collide with a car coming in the opposite direction.
The delivery driver suffered a cut to his head- requiring treatment by paramedics - in the robbery which happened at 10.30am on Thursday October 4. The thief is believed to have driven off down Welsh Road West.
Police carried out house to house enquiries and made an immediate search of the surrounding area, and the van was later recovered near Napton Church.
The thief is described as a slim white man in his 30s, with short ginger hair. He was wearing blue trousers and a blue jacket, and spoke in a foreign language – possibly eastern European.
Police are investigating whether the thief had an accomplice who was watching the robbery from a car and may have followed the van.
Courier drivers are being warned to be vigilant and to be aware of vehicles around them when making deliveries. They are also being advised to remove the keys when making deliveries.
Anyone with information should contact PSI John Eaton on 01926 415000 ext 4070 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
