A MARRIED couple in Hatton have been banned from keeping animals for ten years after being convicted of cruelty.

Stephen and Margaret Priest, of Starmer Place, pleaded guilty to an offence of causing unnecessary suffering to a 14-year-old dog named Shamrock which was underweight and suffering with an ulcerated tumour.

Sentenced by magistrates in Leamington on Thursday (September 27), they were each given a 12-month community order with probation supervision over that time.

They were also ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and given a ten-year ban on keeping all animals.

Mr Priest also had to pay costs of £250.
