IT was a golden summer for Britian's Olympians and also for Leamington gardeners.

The town scooped a Gold Award in the Heart of England In Bloom’ Competition, collected by

Leamington Mayor Yvonne Moore, accompanied by the Chairman of the Leamington in Bloom Committee Enid Simms, at an awards ceremony in Birmingham.

Judges visited the town in July to view the efforts of local residents and schools, community groups and local contractors and businesses. They visited the Pump Room Gardens, the Railway Station, St Mary’s Allotments, the Sydni Centre, Campion School, Whittle Court and the Dell.

Mr Simms thanked everyone who helped to achieve this success for the town.

She added: "I particularly would like to thank all the entrants to the town’s local competition and to the judges, those residents who have opened their gardens, the school children and their teachers who have grown geraniums for our trains, people in the town who have kindly helped with our advertising and especially those who allowed the judges to look at their efforts during their tour of Leamington.

"And hanks go to the contractors who carry out the tireless jobs of planting, weeding, watering, cleaning the town and generally making our town worthy of a Gold standard.

"Our slogan this year was 'Going for Gold' - and we achieved it!"
