A SPORTY fun day in Warwick on Bank Holiday Monday (August 27) aims to help a Paralympic skier from the town fulfil her dreams.

The forthcoming London Paralympics are set to attract records crowds and exposure but government funding cuts mean Anna Turney's hopes of competing at the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi, Russia, remain in doubt.

On Monday, from 1pm onwards at the Rose & Crown pub in Market Place, the 'Wheelie Good Rose Games' will be held, featuring a barbecue and live music plus a sports day with games for all ages and abilities, including wheelchair slalom, obstacle course, wrong handed throw, handbike hill challenge and static jump.

A £20 donation per team is being asked for, all going toward Anna's training and competing costs.

Speaking from a training camp in Austria, she said: “My coach thinks if I continue like this I stand a good chance of a medal in Sochi

“But despite being medal contenders, the British Disabled Ski Team is seriously underfunded.”

Inspirational Anna was left paralysed after breaking her back in a snowboarding accident in Japan in 2006 but the ultra competitive Chase Meadow resident refused to be beaten, battling back to world class level and joining the British Disabled Ski Team.

This winter she finished fourth overall in Europe, winning a silver and six bronze Europa Cup medals and a further silver and two bronze medals in International Paralympic Committee races.

She also doe swork in schools to inspire young people with a charity called 21st Century Legacy.
