VISITORS to Warwick Hospital will have an extra 100 car parking spaces to choose from next month.

South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust has decided to turn one of the staff car parks into a second patient and visitor car park in order to relieve the pressure on existing parking facilities.

The new patient and visitor car park, signposted as Car Park B, will be situated opposite the Aylesford Unit on Lakin Road, just a short walk to the main hospital entrance. Staff parking will be moved to an off-site location off Millers Road.

The work, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of September, has already begun and signs displaying the new patient and visitor car park will be put up once completed.

Chief executive Glen Burley said: "We always try to take into consideration the best interest of our patients and visitors and this solution offers our local community easier accessibility to our hospital site.”

Car parking charges for patients and visitors will remain the same.

MORE THAN 90 per cent of patients receiving cancer treatment at Warwick Hospital have rated their care as being excellent or very good in the last year.

Patients are asked to complete a survey evaluating different areas of care such as waiting times and quality of clinical advice.

The level of care was rated as excellent or very good by 92% per cent of patients and many responses were in the top 20 per cent of 160 NHS Trusts providing cancer services across England.

Results from the Cancer Patient Experience Survey 2011/12 survey also showed 90 per cent of patients reported hospital staff did everything to help control their pain at all times and 87 per cent agreed they were always treated with dignity and respect by staff.

In 2008, The Aylesford Unit was built at Warwick Hospital, designed to ensure the hospital delivered high quality cancer services.

Jayne Blacklay, Deputy chief executive, said: “The Trust has worked really hard over the last few years to develop cancer services in partnership with our patients so it is fantastic to see that our work has been recognised. I would like to thank our staff in the unit for working so hard to deliver successful services.”
