OLD WARWICKIANS lifted the Cricketer Trophy following a 28 run victory over Denstone Wanderers at Charterhouse School on Sunday.

Old Warwickians won the toss and choose to bat but quickly slumped to 38 for 5 as Dom Burnett claimed 3-16 in his opening six over spell. However, an 82 run patnership between Tommy Williams 47 and Jon Byrd 39 combined with some late order hitting from Mark Banham 33no and Chris Kroeger 14no saw Old Warwickians to 204-8 from their 50 overs.

Burnett led the attack with an ecomonical 3-27 from ten overs and skipper Mike Snow claimed 3-60.

Denstone got off to an equally poor start as the reply stumbled to 47 for 6.

McAloon 55 and Bamford 45 gave Denstone a glimmer of hope with a 64 run stand, while Burnett made 28 from 32 balls but ran out of partners as the reply terminated on 172.

Seamers Dan Wood 3-17 and Andy Harris 3-24 proved pick of the attack whilst Byrd completed a fine all round game with 2-37.

After the game the draw for the 2013 competition was made with Old Warwickians facing an away tie in the first round at Denstone!
