Success of Stoneleigh Park Community Games

THE FIRST ever Stoneleigh Park Community Games has been hailed as a huge success with people from across the region joining in the fun.

The event, across the weekend of August 4 and 5, featured Olympic-inspired activities for children such as judo, badminton, volleyball and even a spot of cheerleading.

Scooter demonstrations took place thanks to a team from Scootfest – the first ever World Championships - which will take place at Stoneleigh Park from August 17 to 19.

Visitors could also have a go at being clowns and acrobats in a circus skills workshop, while there were various craft activities and a big screen kept visitors up to date with the Olympic action from London before turning into a cinema on the Saturday evening showing two films decided by public vote – Pixar favourite ‘Up’ and the ever-popular ‘Dirty Dancing’.

Ian Pegler, chief executive for Stoneleigh Park, said: “I want to say a big thank you to everyone who came along and supported the event and to all those local groups which helped to give the children a little taste of their particular sport.

“We were pleased we had decided the previous week to move the event indoors due to the unsettled weather forecast – it proved to be a wise decision. Luckily equestrian displays were still able to take place outside in between showers!”
