OUTSTANDING nursing across Warwick and Stratford hospitals has been honoured at an annual awards ceremony.
South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the two hospitals, announced winners at its annual general meeting last week.
Roz Baker, staff nurse on Avon Ward at Warwick, was awarded 'Nurse of the Year 2012' for her dedicated work in helping to reduce the number of falls, assisting the implementation of slipper socks for patients to use across the trust.
The runner up prize was awarded to Wendy Allen, a health visitor based at the Orchard Centre in Rugby, for her work with children with special and complex needs.
The Nursing Team on Hatton Ward at Warwick was announced as Nursing Team of the Year 2012 following their nomination by a patient who praised the nurses’ hard work, humour and sensitivity.
The runner up prize was awarded to the Nicol Unit nursing team at Stratford for their commitment to reducing the number of falls, as well as their work in providing a therapeutic environment for patients.
Trust chief executive Glen Burley, said: “We received some fantastic nominations, all of which really show our nursing team’s commitment and compassion for our patients and demonstrate the exceptional standards they deliver day in day out.”
The Woods’ Nursing Awards are named after a former Warwick nurse who left the trust a sum of money on her death, in order for it to be used to recognise excellent nursing.
