A QUARTET of local ladies competed in the World Masters Squash Championships in Birmingham.
Alison Insley (Warwick Boat Club) eased to a 3-1 victory over Ayton Kecei (Turkey) in the first round of the over 40 event but then lost 3-1 to Lisa Cowlard (New Zealand) in round two.
Insley went into the Classic Plate but suffered a 3-1 defeat to fellow Warwickshire rival Jane Armstrong (Solihull Arden) in the quarter-final.
Lucy Emsden (Warwick Boat Club) bowed out of the over 45 competition in the first round after losing to Louise Lefebve (Canada) in three straight games.
Emsden received a walkover Rina Elney (England) in the plate first round and followed up with a 3-0 success over Tanya Bailey (Australia) but lost 3-0 to Claudia Schubert (Germany) in round three.
Carolyn Lindsay (Kenilworth) suffered a 3-0 first round defeat against Lisa O’Grady (USA) in round one of the over 50s event.
She was also beaten 3-1 by Pippa Green (England) in the plate but bounced back to win the consolatioin plate following 3-0 victories over Hiroko Kawaguchi (Japan), Cornelia Wolff (Germany) and Irish Hoefling (Germany).
Frances Humphreys (Warwick Boat Club) fell to a 3-0 first round defeat against Freda Walker (New Zealand) in the over 55 category.
Humphreys lost 3-0 to Deborah Halpen (Australia) in the first round of the plate but recovered tp clinch the consolation plate by whitewashing both Lyndy Edy (South Africa) and Jenny Lombard (Namibia).
