A LONG-STANDING Leamington resident is still going strong in her charity work at the tender age of 98.

Connie Sharman helped set up the local branch of Save the Children in 1959 and remains a stalwart supporter of its work more than 50 years on.

Just last month she joined yet another local street collection, helping to raise £280, assisted by daughter Judy and son-in-law Mike Harrelson.

American-born Connie moved to Leamington in 1954 with her English husband Eric and has lived here ever since.

She said: “I have been at this for over 50 years. Doing my bit feels as good today as it did when I first started!

“I do encourage anyone who has some spare time, spare cash or unwanted things around the home to donate them in Save the Children. We need you, and all the young at heart, to help keep this charity on track in fulfilling its mission of feeding the children of the world.”

Her daughter Judy said: “I suspect Mum is the oldest collector in the country. She is a great inspiration.”

Visit www.savethechildren.org.uk for more information on the charity.
