THE foundations of an all new woodland are now being laid in Leamington.

As part of the proposed redevelopment of the former Ford Foundry site off Princes Drive – which will include a Morrisons supermarket and business offices – a triangle of land near to the railways lines has been set aside for a green space to be known as 'Foundry Wood'.

With planning permission recently secured for landscaping, community group ARC and volunteers can now get to work planting and creating woodchip pathways as well as compost facilities and an outdoor classroom.

Volunteer work parties – on set days throughout the coming weeks – are planned and anyone wishing to help out is encouraged to come along.

Kristie Naimo from ARC – an organisation known as a 'Community Interest Company' in that it is launched for the benefit of the community and not for individual gain - said: “The space will comprise of several areas to allow the community to interact and use the space in a variety of ways.

“We started work on site in March – with some planting and weed clearing - and projects will carry on throughout the year plus we plan to form a ‘Friends of Foundry Wood’ group.

Visit www.foundrywood.co.uk or call Kristie on 07906 262364 to learn more about the project and how to get involved with volunteering.
