SCOTTISH singer Eddi Reader is among those heading for this year's Warwick Folk Festival from July 26 to 29.
Reader grew up in Glasgow and Irvine and learned to use music as a vehicle for communicating with others through busking and performing at the local folk clubs.
She worked as session singer with post punk outfit Gang of Four and chart-toppers the Eurtyhmics, and enjoyed her own time in the pop spotlight fronting Fairground Attraction whose single Perfect and accompanying album First of a Million Kisses both topped the British charts.
She recorded a string of acclaimed solo albums, before moving from London back to Glasgow, where she recorded the classic ‘Songs Of Robert Burns’ album released to international acclaim in 2003.
Awarded the MBE in 2006 for services to singing, she took her Burns songs on tour all over the world and found connections to the bard everywhere from Kolkata, India to Sydney, Australia.
In 2006 she released the album Peacetime featuring the finest traditional players in the UK and produced by Folk Musician of The Year, John McCusker, who is also performing at the festival.
From the traditional to the contemporary, Readers brings joyous life to all forms of song.
Others taking to the various Warwick Folk Festival stages include Edward II with their unique folk and reggae fusion; traditional music supergroup McGoldrick, McCusker and Doyle; English roots revivalists Faustus; celebrated Scottish outfit Breabach; veteran songsmith Vin Garbutt; young singer-songwriter Jim Moray; Canadian trio Finest Kind.
The ever-popular festival, held in the grounds of Warwick School, will also include morris dancing in all its forms, workshops, ceilidhs; fun and games for youngsters, food and real ale, and much more, including The Fringe Festival in the and around the town.
