A DRIVER who died after crashing his Porsche into a telegraph pole near Ryton has been named.

Laurence Gentle, 26, crashed on the Coventry-bound carriageway before the Ryton on Dunsmore roundabout in the early hours of Sunday morning (July 8).

It happened at around 1.15am when the Birmingham man lost control of his high performance car, hitting the telegraph pole and trees before ending up on the nearside verge.

He died shortly after being rushed to University Hospital in Coventry for treatment.

Police shut the road for several hours while emergency services attended to Mr Gentle and cleared the scene.

His family, who live in Leamington, paid tribute to Mr Gentle.

In a statement they said: "We are totally devastated by the tragic loss of Laurence. He was a much loved son, brother, grandson, cousin and nephew and his family and friends will miss him with the greatest sadness.

"His positive outlook and great energy for life meant he accomplished and experienced so much in his life which has now tragically been cut short.

"He had such a generous and caring nature and was always such great company. Laurence had so much to give and so much to say, he put his whole heart into everything he did.

"Such a strong young man with so many hopes and dreams, he will always be remembered with such pride and love by all who knew him."
