A FORMER Kenilworth schoolgirl turned Afghanistan veteran runs the Olympic Flame through the streets of Chichester today (Monday).

Vicky Scott, once of St Joseph’s School – now called Crackley Hall – is a serving lieutenant and Royal Navy nursing officer, already serving three tours of duty in Helmand Province.

The 33-year-old, who lives in Bedworth, was nominated for the honour by her husband Andrew – himself a serving navy officer - after she was described as a “true Florence Nightingale” by family and friends.

She said: “When I returned from Afghanistan in July 2011 I found out about the nomination and discovered I had made it through to the next round. I was really shocked and thought I wouldn’t make it any further.

“Then in March this year I had the confirmation email stating I had been selected. I was really excited and so happy to have been chosen and to have this opportunity; I feel really privileged and honoured.

“I am buying my Torch and have no intention of selling it.”

Vicky joined the Royal Navy in 2005 and is part of the Queen Alexandra’s Royal Navy Nursing Service.
