CYCLISTS will be racing the Olympic Torch to Warwick in memory of Molly.

Over 40 riders will be pedalling 240 miles from Llandudno in Wales to Warwick town centre to raise money for the charity Molly Olly’s Wishes, which was set up by Tim and Rachel Ollerenshaw of Hatton Park in memory of their eight-year old daughter Molly who died in last June after a long battle with a rare kidney cancer.

The charity offers support and help to children with terminal or life threatening illnesses throughout the Midlands and the UK, and to their families.

The money raised will help support children and their families who need additional help beyond that offered by the NHS and other organisations.

“We would go on family holidays to Llandudno in North Wales,” said Molly’s mum Rachel. “It has very happy memories for us, so that’s’ why we thought it would be as good a place as any to start the ride”

The route will take the riders three days, stopping over in Dolgellau in Wales and Church Stretton in Shropshire after climbing over the Long Mynd.

“Once we realised the ride coincided with the arrival of the Olympic Torch into Warwick that became an obvious focal point for the finish” said ride organiser Duncan Coutts, who is a close family friend of the Ollerenshaws.

The riders include working colleagues from Warwick-based Moore & Tibbats Solicitors, Mr Ollerenshaw’s employers, as well as friends including BBC presenter Phil Upton.

“Once I heard about this I had to be part of it”, said Phil, who’ll be covering the ride with daily radio reports into BBC Coventry and Warwickshire.

The riders hope to raise £30,000.
