TWO entrepreneurs from Leamington are riding high with their special invention - the world's first wearable bike lock.
John Abrahams and Ben Smith, two former Coventry University industrial design graduates both now aged 33, now run a rapidly growing company called Plus 8 Industries from offices in Augusta Place.
Their innovative 'Hiplok' product is the world's first wearable bike lock with a fully adjustable belt fixing which allows the rider to tighten around their waist.
It comes in a choice of colours and reflective detailing for added safety when night riding and has received excellent feedback from consumers and the world's cycling press.
Ben Smith told the Observer: "We're really happy with how things are going and the product is doing really well.
"It is ideal being based in Leamington as its so central."
Since its official launch last year, the company has rapidly expanded and the wearable locks are now sold around the world and through national retailers such as Evans and Cycle Surgery, as well as local independents such as The Bike Yard in Leamington.
The Hiplok, which retails at about £70, comprises a hardened steel chain and is fully adjustable so one size fits all. It is also quickly removable and can be carried with ease.
