Top Club success sets up anniversary celebrations

WHITNASH BC progressed into round three of the Top Club competition following a narrow 3-2 victory over Norgren.

Graham Cluff got them off to the perfect start by recording a 14-13 success in the 2-wood singles but the visitors levelled when Simon Gilbert was beaten 21-15 in the 4-wood singles.

Norgren went ahead by winning the triples 16-14 but Pete Gilbert and Adam Shuttleworth levelled afffairs with a comfortable 27-8 success in the pairs.

Whitnash sealed overall victory thanks to the rink of Mick Davis, Keith Billington, Dave Thompson and skip Alfie Diston who ran out 29-15 winners.

Whitnash followed up with a fine 107-96 victory over Royal Leamington Spa at Victoria Park on Saturday.

Whitnash also welcomed Bowls England on Monday as part of their 50th anniversary celebrations with the visitors edging a narrow 113-111 victory.

Whitnash enjoyed two winning rinks, the best of which was a 23-11 success from Derek Owen, Mick Davis, Frank Darlinson and Hamish Crawford.
