THE 30th annual Two Castles Run saw 4,000 runners pound the streets between Warwick and Kenilworth's castles on Sunday morning (June 10).

Held in sunny conditions – something of a rarity lately – the event lived up to its growing reputation as one of the best ten kilometre runs in the country and had a familiar winner in Ryan Kenny, who won the event once again in a time of 32 minutes 48 seconds.

Mr Kenny, who also celebrated his 24th birthday on the day and is a Regency Run winner this year too, said afterwards it had been “a little bit too warm” but thanked the tremendous support of local people along the route between Warwick Castle and Kenilworth Castle.

The first female home was Amanda Deavy, in 39 minutes 22 seconds, who said later: “This was first time for me in this event but I enjoyed the atmosphere and will definitely be back again.”

The first male and female junior runners to finish were Patrick Roddy and Julie Emmerson respectively.

Mayors of Kenilworth and Warwick, coun George Illingworth and coun Elizabeth Higgins, were in attendance at the finish to present prizes.

Last year the event – organised by Kenilworth Rotary Club and Leamington Cycling and Athletics Club - raised £130,000 for various charity and early feedback suggest a similar amount can be expected this year.

Richard Thornton, a spokesman for main event sponsor Blythe Liggins solicitors, said: “It was a privilege to be associated with the event again, which is now such an important part of the Kenilworth, Warwick and Leamington community and improves every year.”
