BUDDING radio presenters in Kenilworth are appealing for help to get a fledgling online radio station on air.
Radio Abbey first broadcast in 2009, run by members of Kenilworth Youth Centre in Abbey End, but only aired sporadically.
But now, after the venue recently secured charity status and re-branded itself as Kenilworth Centre, moves are afoot to relaunch the radio station.
Town mother Liane Dougal, who will run the re-launched station with fellow local resident Mick Wheeler, told the Observer: “This is an excellent opportunity to drive the station to the heart of the community and hopefully become a voice for the people of Kenilworth and beyond.
“As well as training and opportunities for local people to become part of the Radio Abbey team, in production, presenting, researching and promotions, the station will have an active role in all community events, launching projects and offering music talent to have a stage to perform live on-air.”
As well as trying to forge links with local groups and businesses, new station bosses have also been offered the chance to record event at the forthcoming Kenilworth Festival, which opens on Saturday (May 12).
Over the weekend of May 19 and 20 the radio team will be located in the main marquee at Abbey Fields and are encouraging people to meet the team and learn more about possible volunteering opportunities.
Liane added: “The station is really being embraced locally and people can help us build a better community.”
Radio Abbey will be broadcasting from the centre at www.radioabbey.com throughout the summer, with an official launch in September.
