THE number of scouts in Warwickshire continues to shoot up.
Since 2005, there has been a rise of almost 20 per cent across the county, to a current total of 5,800 members.
Across the UK, scout membership has now topped 525,000, its highest level this century.
The impressive surge in membership in Warwickshire, the seventh consecutive year of expansion, has mainly been attributed to a large number of Explorer Scouts - aged 14 to 18 - signing up in the past year.
The Scout Association believes the rise is down to the enormous range of adventures it offers young people, as well as the opportunities to achieve individual goals and rewards.
Chief scout, the TV adventurer Bear Grylls, said “It is so great to see scout numbers rising in Warwickshire. There truly is something for everyone in the world of scouting.”
