Tile Hill Colts 60 Warwick Bears 53
BEARS clinched promotion from Warwickshire League Division Two despite losing their last game of the season.
They pipped Tile Hill to the runners-up spot, behind Westwood, by virtue of a better head-to-head record against the Coventry outfit after they both finished level on points.
Warwick got off to the perfect start with baskets from Ashley Dawson, Sam Crawford, captain Ricky Kular and Ashley Dawson securing a 17-9 lead at the end of the first period.
Tile Hill hit back and reduced the deficit to 23-22 at half time as Bears manage just four points in a poor second period.
Baskets from Kular, who began to find room inside the Tile Hill key, and Dawson put Warwick 43-38 ahead going into the last period.
Ben Linnett and Kular extended the advantage to 51-42 with five minutes remaining.
Tile Hill opted for a man to man defence and it had the desired effect as Warwick lost their way and the match.
But Bears still finished runners-up due to previous 82-66 and 92=37 victories over Tile Hill Colts.
Coach Ian A’Kempis said: “Despite the defeat it has been a good season for us and we now face a summer of building up the squad for next season’s campaign.”
