GIVING birth in Warwickshire just got easier.
The arrival of a new baby is an exciting time, but for many the paperwork associated with it, may get forgotten or delayed.
In a bid to try and help Warwickshire’s new parents to keep on top of things, a new free service is being offered where parents can tell Warwickshire County Council everything once, and the authority then takes on all the hard work.
The ‘Tell Us Once’ service means the council can contact the host of Government organisations that need to be informed of a new birth.
County customer services spokesman Colin Hayfield said: “Our Registration Service has launched this new free service to try and make the whole process easier when a new baby arrives.
“We realised many people are having to repeat the same information to different government organisations several times, which could prove time consuming and frustrating, we’re hopefully making the whole thing a lot easier.”
Anyone with a Registrar appointment to register a birth can now ask to extend this appointment and take up the ‘Tell Us Once Service’.
By using the new service, Warwickshire County Council can contact the Department for Work and Pensions; Jobcentre Plus, Housing Benefit office, Council Tax benefit office; library services, children’s services (including Family Information Services, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), and Child Benefit.
In order to take up the ‘Tell Us Once Service’ on the day the birth is registered with the Registrar the following additional information is required:
· A completed claim form for Child Benefit (if making a claim).
· The National Insurance number/s and /or date of birth, address and telephone number of the parents named on the birth register.
· Details of any benefits the parent/s named on the birth register are receiving or have applied for.
