THE trust which runs Warwick Hospital has been approached to partner with George Elliot Hospital in Nuneaton in a bid to safeguard children's services there.
The Observer exclusively revealed in November that South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust – which runs Warwick and Stratford hospitals – was plotting a multi-million pound takeover of troubled George Elliot.
That remains on the table but this week it was proposed the women's and children's services be joined up across the hospitals, sharing doctors among other aspects.
Glen Burley, chief executive of Warwick, has welcomed the approach and the Arden Cluster, a primary care trust, has now been sent the propsals to consider.
Mr Burley said: “George Eliot Hospital have approached the trust to seek our assistance in implementing the preferred clinical solution to their recent Paediatrics and Maternity review.
"This solution, endorsed by the PCT and the Royal College of Paediatricians, would provide a resident rota of consultant paediatricians on the hospital site. Our help may be required to recruit new consultants to Warwickshire thorough the creation of a more joined-up medical staffing network.”
