Sue Harrison is leading lady again

09/01 Updated: 11/01 14:21

LEAMINGTON C & AC star Sue Harrison won the ladies event in the annual Coventry 5 Mile Road Race.

The race was expertly organised by the Godiva Harriers around a flat, but twisting, course at the University Campus and a good performance guaranteed athletes an early high spot in the UK national rankings.

From the start Leamington C & AC athletes were to the fore with Richard Harper producing a strong run to finish in a fine 6th place in 25-21.

In the ladies race, Harrison found herself back in third place after the opening mile but she did not panic and her depth of strength saw her soon move up into second place chasing Godiva’s Danielle Stuart for the lead.

Going past at the half way point, Harrison put on the pressure and by the finish line had opened up 37 second gap to finish 18th overall and take first place in the ladies event for the third time in the seven year history of the race.

Steve Hundal declared himself satisfied with 35th place of the 184 finishers in 30-40 and like many others has his sights set on the London Marathon 2012.

Husband and wife, Andrew and June Johnson, clearly benefitted from their recent weeks warm weather training at Club La Santa in Lanzarotte. Both finished high up in their respective ‘masters’ age groups as Andrew was 85th in 35-23 and June 142nd in 42-37.

Paul Okey began his build up for the Hull Marathon in April and ran well inside his target of seven minute miling to record 34-25 in 75th place, well inside the top half of the field.
