Khalsa march on

South Nottingham 3 Khalsa 6

RUNAWAY leaders Khalsa returned from the festive break to extend their 100 per cent Midland League Premier Division record in fine style on Saturday.

Khalsa played some fluid hockey and drew first blood with a goal from Scott Angliss, while Surrinder Saini doubled the lead with a reverse stick effort.

Khalsa went into the break holding a comfortable advantage but with room for improvement and came out of the blocks with a quick goal from Dharminder Hundal.

Jay Nagra and Chris Darling then combined at a short corner with the latter deflecting the ball just wide of the post.

The hosts reduced the arrears following a misunderstanding between Pummi Singh and Nick Mills but Khalsa replied with a sublime solo effort from man of the match Gurminder Ghattaura whose quick thinking left the defence and keeper helpless.

Ghattaura quickly doubled his tally with a tidy finish into the roof of the net.

South Nottingham hit back with two goals in quick succession but Khalsa completed the scoring with a delicate touch from England Masters star Adie Betts.

Khalsa, who have now won 12 league matches out of 12 and are 14 points clear at the top, entertain neighbours Coventry & North Warwickshire this Saturday.

The table-topping 2nds suffered a 5-3 defeat against second placed Worcester despite goals from Anit Chudasama 2 and Ray Hung.

The Punjabi Foods man of the match was defender Revinder Singh Hayer.

Khalsa 3rds enjoyed a thrilling 3-2 success over Hampton in Arden.

They did it the hard way as well by coming from two goals down to triumph thanks to goals from Adam Bellerby 2 and Kulbinder Singh Birdi.
